Why a cup is not a fixed weight
Cup measurements are quick and forgiving, but they hide a problem: a cup measures volume, not weight. Fill a cup with all-purpose flour and you have roughly 125 grams. Fill the same cup with honey and you are holding about 340 grams. That is nearly three times the weight from the same measuring cup, simply because honey is far denser than flour. This is why serious bakers reach for a kitchen scale and why a good converter has to know which ingredient you are measuring.
CupsToGrams solves this by storing a density for every ingredient, expressed as grams per US cup. When you convert from a volume unit like cups or tablespoons into grams, the tool multiplies by that density. When you convert the other way, it divides. Mass units such as grams, ounces and pounds convert directly by weight, since they do not depend on the ingredient at all. An Australian metric cup is 250 millilitres and the old British imperial cup is 284.1 millilitres, a spread of nearly 20 percent across the standards in use.
